Samagro is a Belgian family-owned company founded in 1995. Since then, it has grown from a small local producer into an industrial platform for high-quality organic fertilizers. Its product range includes compost, pellets and liquid fertilizers, made primarily from various natural by-products and designed to improve and maintain long-term soil balance in a sustainable way.
Samagro works closely with manure suppliers—such as farms, processors and biogas plants—and with end users across multiple sectors, including agriculture, horticulture, viticulture and sports turf. Its operations are grounded in the circular economy, helping optimize soil fertility through efficient use of organic resources.
A strategic step: the acquisition
In November 2024, Defeder completed the acquisition of Samagro, strengthening its position in the European organic fertilizer market and expanding its international footprint. This transaction represents a strategic synergy: both companies share a common vision focused on sustainability, the circular economy and the optimization of organic resources. Samagro contributes operational expertise in Northern Europe and Asia, while Defeder adds its production capacity in Spain and its focus on eco-viable agri-livestock solutions. Together, this alliance opens new opportunities for international expansion for both organizations.
